Benfica enjoyed a great week end as Manchester Shitty dropped points and this leaves them 2 points behind leaders Villareal.

David Trezuguet was the hero in the 1st game as he calmly slotted a shot into the corner in the 90th min against Porto, Porto took the lead when Mertasackers mistake allowed Falcoa to curl a spectacular shot into the corner. The lead didnt last for long, as Swp and Trezuguet handed Benfica a 2-1 Lead at half time.

In the 67th min, Tragedy struck  Mertasacker slide tackled Lisandro but it was mis timed and there was a penalty for porto. Lisandro stepped up and calmly placed it into the left hand corner.

in the 2nd game v Fiorentina, It was more intense but when Trezuguet scored early on it made the game easier as Fiorentina were chasing the game which allowed Swp to use his pace against the slow Fiorentina CBs. Swp steamed through and he finessed a shot into the top right corner. Then a sloppy mistake from Fiorentina allowed Swp to run around the keeper and slot into the open goal. Fiorentina did pull one back from Laquinta but it was a mere consolation.

Benfica have won 6 games on the trot and there manager is very pleased.  he added "Trez and Shaun have been banging in the goals and that has really helped us in our title charge, he aslo mentioned that the signing of Mertsacker has helped the club, When he joined us in the window we have not dropped a point with him in the team and that shows his quality, Torsten also has helped our team because his amazing through balls have found Shauny and with Shaunys deadly chips it has been easy for us"

Hamburg and Galatasary will be up next for Benfica and they head into those games full of confidence :)

Benfica are in pole position with Villreal for the title after Milan dropped points vs german champions Wolfsburg. A couple of wins against Tottenham will hand Benfica a 4 point cushion over Ac Milan.

There have been many signings in the transfer window as  Antonio Cassano was snapped up by Benfica very quickly, It was rumoured 10 clubs in division 1 wanted him aswell. He has fitted in very well after scoring 4 agains his old employers Real Madrid. Cassano said on portugese tv "I am the best and Benfica is the best, It is a great combination"

Cassano was joined at Benfica by Cameron Jerome the highly rated England striker and dramtically Igor Akinfeev contract was terminated 30minutes after signing, he was reported to have a argument with the manager. Torsten Frings was swapped for Marcello Borden and this move will surely add a great defensive spine to the Benfica team. Aidan Mc Geady also left and he departed company with Benfica for 16million as he left to Juventus so Benfica had funds to buy Antonio Cassano
